The SuperRare DAO exists to assist in fulfilling the ethos and purpose of web3: decentralization. Specifically, the SuperRare DAO is a body that ensures the SuperRare ecosystem isn’t just governed by a small and powerful group, but by its community of artists and collectors. The DAO communicates via the SuperRare Discord, and, in order to join, you need to buy some $RARE, the DAO’s governance token. But once you’re all set up, what can you do in the SuperRare DAO?
SIPs are SuperRare Improvement Proposals. They are proposals for DAO activities and platform governance that members of the SuperRare DAO can introduce. SIPs that have been passed and implemented relate to protocol development, network curation, and treasury management. These include proposals for grant programs, proposals to reinstate artists who were removed from the marketplace, and proposals for improvements to the SuperRare website.
The Space Race is a process for proposing, voting on, and onboarding independently operated galleries to the SuperRare Network. Spaces are a pivotal step in decentralizing the act of art curation on the SuperRare marketplace, as artists whose work is curated by a Space can sell those pieces on SuperRare, even if they were not whitelisted to mint by SuperRare Labs’ curators. Any member of the DAO who holds enough $RARE can vote in the Space Race. You can learn more about the Space Race here.
$RARE, the token of the SuperRare DAO, can be used to purchase artwork on the SuperRare marketplace instead of $ETH as long as the seller allows it. But $RARE can also be used to stake in an artist. Staking in this context acts as a form of community curation aimed at improving artwork discovery, as it’s a means for an individual to demonstrate their appreciation of and faith in an artist, and it’s a chance for everyone to benefit within the SuperRare ecosystem, as stakers will be able to claim $RARE at regular intervals from a rarity pool. You can learn more about staking here.
